Holy Hour Guidelines

A sincere thank you to each of you who have agreed to serve the Koinonia community in this special way.  Holy Hour is a significant gathering for the community during a weekend. It is a time of fellowship and praise. It is a time when everyone present can offer prayer and support to the team and the candidates. It is a time for each person to remember the joy of his/her weekend and to reconnect with the spirit that binds Koinonians together.

Some requirements and suggestions for Holy Hour:

1.)    Holy Hour begins at 8:30 on Saturday evening. It is over at 9:15 P.M.
Before the Holy Hour begins, a coffee/fellowship time is held. Your group will be responsible
for that. Please time your service. We need to coordinate carefully with Weekend schedule. It
is hard for those in the weekend to wait for our serenade. Plan adequate time for
communion—all need to come forward (unless you have a better plan.) If you have people
come forward during the prayer, plan sufficient time for that as well.

2.)    Two things that must happen during a Holy Hour are communion and prayer for the team
and candidates (by individual name.)
  A. The Holy Hour Coordinator has the responsibility of bringing the bread, grape juice, 2
Chalices and plates to the church and back to Bellinger when Holy Hour is over. ( Chalices
and plate are in an aluminum case.)
  B. You will need to contact a spiritual Director to ask him/her to serve communion. The Spiritual
Director does not need to give a talk unless you and that person agree.
  C. You will need a troubadour or your own musician. The Holy Hour Coordinator can be of help
if you need some.
  D. Check with the Weekend Coordinator after sign-in on Friday night to ensure that the list of
names for team and candidates as had been previously published. Sometimes there are last
minute changes. Also, check the pronunciation of each name!
  E.  Please contact the weekend troubadour with the songs you will be using for the serenade
two weeks prior to the weekend.
3.)   You are free to be creative as you wish with this service. There is no prescribed format.
Music, drama, group participation—all are great!!!
4.)   If you can duplicate words to the songs you will use, it will eliminate the need to transfer song
books from the weekend to the church and back again. (The Weekend Coordinator will be
grateful.) If you need assistance with duplication, contact the Holy Hour Coordinator.
5.)    It is recommended that the community scripture be read at each gathering whenever
possible. (1 John 4:7-12) This does not mean that other scriptures cannot also be read and
used.
6.)   Often a program handout has been used. This is great but not required.
7.)   The Chief Steward will be there to give a brief report. Usually, that person prefers to give the
report early in the service so that his/her return to the weekend is not rushed.
8.)    If  you choose to have some tangible form for each name during the prayer, ensure that you
have an accurate list and accurate spelling. After the Holy Hour, transport the names and
whatever to the weekend building.
